I’m MoniqueKnows, also known as Mo’. I’m super excited about sharing with you my unique journey to becoming a Podcast Personality and Entertainment Blogger. Let’s cruise down memory lane a bit, shall we….
I was born in Washington, DC. My stay in the Nation’s Capital was short lived, because my family and I moved to VA four years after my birth. During my youth, I enjoyed spending time with my family and friends. Over the years, I acquired several hobbies, that I truly enjoyed, but my favorite without question was listening and dancing to music on the radio. I think every kid my age was doing the same.
As I got older my taste for music expanded a great deal. I was listening to pretty much everything, from R&B, Pop, Rap, Hip Hop, Neo Soul, Go-Go, Gospel and Reggae. I developed a love for radio. Any chance I got I’d always listened to the radio. Of course I enjoyed the music but also I developed a love for the art of radio such as the on-air personalities, the interviews, the commentary, the different views and opinions I would hear expressed from people. This was definitely turning into something, that I didn’t want to be without. A passion perhaps? I can answer without a doubt, with a resounding yes. I can say that I saw myself as being a budding Radio Personality in the making.
After graduating from High School, I took some communication classes at a local University, to help prepare me for my undeniable passion. Many of my friends left and went to college. I moved on to work a 9 to 5 job to help pay for my classes and make a good living to support myself. Due to lack of focus and motivation, to work and go to school to pursue my dream; working won, at that time I didn’t have the focus to see how my passion could pay the bills. So I moved away from my passion and continued down the path of working a 9 to 5. I thought a lot about revisiting this desire to pursue my dream, but the question was when Monique?
After years of working, I hit a rough patch in my career as I’m sure a lot of you can relate to where my job became so demanding and stressful. I was working crazy hours, I was frustrated and unfulfilled. This literally pushed me to connect with the Holy Spirit on another level. As I became more spiritually mature. I became stronger both spiritually and mentally. I was so strong that God pushed my exhausted, over worked self-back into the direction that gives me the most happiness. In 2015, I took a voice over course. This reignited my fire for the radio industry again!
The following year 2016, my one and only sibling my younger brother passed away. The loss of my brother brought me to my knees. It made me see just how short life is. Later this same year God put some amazing people in my path, people that would help me align with my passion, I’m ever so grateful for that. And so my journey to becoming a Podcast Personality/Event Blogger began. All I can say is “Can’t he do it”. This is what happens when you let God be the keeper of your soul. Support is coming from all directions and I love every bit of it. Through hard work and dedication to building my brand and balancing all aspects of my life; there is nothing I can’t do!
